Good Advice From Bill & Paul's Sporthaus
Jeremy Battaglia is a pro equipment expert at Bill & Paul's Sporthaus, and he has made arrangements for special incentives with Savolion.  Please support Bill & Paul's Sporthaus for gear, footwear, and clothing, and make sure you present your Incentives Trip Card to Jeremy, or the owner Eric Pearson, to receive your exclusive incentives.

Check out Jeremy's advice on footwear and look for more of his articles on clothing and gear in the near future.  To the article...

PACKING LIST
For reasons of health, comfort, safety, and overall trip enjoyment, you are strongly encouraged to bring the following items:
Clothing in khaki, brown, white, and/or beige colors
Light cotton tops and/or T-shirts
Cotton trousers/shorts
Long-sleeved blouses/shirts (sun and mosquito protection)
Jeans or Safari trousers for evenings and cooler days
Fleece, sweater, or light warm jacket
Hat.  Make sure you find one that is comfortable and nondescript, with no obvious American names or symbols)
Sunglasses
Sunscreen, lip salve, insect repellent, moisturizer
Thermal underwear, light layers, sweater, warm jacket, good socks, and sturdy boots (if climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro only).
Boots/trekking shoes.  These need to be good, but do not need to be the best; about $80-$100 is a good spending limit.  BREAK THESE IN SOON!  If this is not done it could be very uncomfortable on the trip.
Journal.  Make sure this is small enough to fit in a fanny pack.  One suggestion is a company called Artworks which makes a convenient 3"x6" journal.  This is a good place to keep your visa, addresses for postcards, medical information, emergency contacts, etc.  It is important to have all of this in one easy-to-access place.
Small Flashlight
Remember that there is no need to over pack, as there will be laundry services available throughout the trip.

HEALTH AND PREPARATION
Immunizations
Kenya has no requirements and no anticipated outbreaks

Tanzania requires Yellow Fever

I recommend Tetanus, Hepatitis A and Yellow Fever shots.  Please consult your personal physician.
Preparations
Passports, Tanzanian visa, and immunizations should be taken care of within 21 days of departure.
Start breaking in your boots at 60 days before departure.
Learn to use any photo equipment that you will be bringing.  You don’t want to miss a photo opportunity because you did not know how to use your camera.
Begin to gather a list of addresses of the people to whom you would like to send postcards.
Get doctor slips for all prescription medications that you will be bringing.
Go to the dentist nw if you have any issues
Consult your physician regarding immunizations and applicable shots.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VERY IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Begin an exercise program designed to build endurance.  At the latest, you should start this program 60 days prior to departure.  At the east, start walking every day (at minimum a brisk three-mile walk), stretching every day, and a weight-training program (this does not need to turn you into The Hulk; just build endurance and strength).  Also incorporate a daily breathing technique.  This should be performed at least three times daily, but will be most beneficial if it is performed many times throughout the day.  Inhale through your nose, fill your lungs and stomach as if it is a sponge to remove the last bit of air.  This technique has a residual calming effect that aids the body, along with the exercise program, to build endurance.  It is also a good way to stay calm if you are in a heightened situation.  This will be practiced together at the travel security seminar.

Along with this exercise program, you should start to adjust your eating habits.  Drink lots of water every day!!!  You should drink more than the normal recommended amount, and do not wait until you are thirsty but instead sip water constantly.  This will help your body to learn to use water more efficiently.  Also, begin to eliminate processed foods and sugars from your diet.  Try to eat only whole, natural, or live foods; nothing from a box.  Add as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible.
